the day which i dreaded finally came... firstly, my laptop, which i bought in August 2005, shut down by itself. so i thought that it was due to overheating. but after trying with a laptop cooling pad and reformatting, the laptop still shuts down in a matter of minutes after i start it. i even tried reformatting it, thinking that maybe it was something which i installed after reformat which caused the auto shutdown, but the laptop shut down by itself in the midst of reformatting. so i cannot even access my hard disk now.
i'm still not giving up, so i will send an email to Acer service support regarding my problem, and try dismantling my laptop to see if there is any visible hardware damage. i may also take out the hard disk from the laptop and try connecting it to my desktop to retrieve the files inside.
i really hope that the laptop can still survive for a couple of years more, but it may not be worth the extra maintenance costs. since i do not have an immediate need for a computer to work on, i shall wait and see what happens to my enquiry with Acer, and then evaluate whether it's worth it or not.
